On July 19, 2026, a breathing exercise seminar led by clinical psychologist Ritsuko Yamada was held at the Multicultural Kids Salon, an initiative operated by Toshima Ward and the Shanti Volunteer Association.
Following a consultation session for children and parents visiting the salon, a few parents and Shanti staff members took part in the event. After a lecture on how breathing affects mental health, the group engaged in exercises for the respiratory muscles.

Although the respiratory muscle exercises lasted only about 15 minutes, a comparison of breathing rates before and after the session showed a decrease in the rate for almost all participants.
Taking deep, slow breaths has a relaxing effect and helps balance the autonomic nervous system.
